Can you smell that fresh Derry air? HBO has just unleashed the first teaser trailer for the “IT” prequel series, “It: Welcome to Derry.” The show is expected to debut sometime this fall, and we’re betting on October, but nothing is set in stone.

“Welcome to Derry” is a nine-episode series that serves as a prequel to Stephen King’s 1986 novel “IT.” The show’s plot will be based on Mike Hanlon’s interludes from King’s book. These asides document the “catastrophic events” of Derry’s horrific past.
“IT” was first adapted in 1990 as a TV miniseries starring the legendary Tim Curry (“Rocky Horror Picture Show”). Then again, in 2017 and 2019, as two films by Andrés Muschietti (“The Flash”), starring Bill Skarsgård (“Nosferatu”) as the titular villain. The new series will have several episodes directed by Muschietti, with Skarsgård reprising his role. Jason Fuchs (“Argylle”) wrote the teleplay for the first episode and will serve as co-showrunner with Brad Caleb Kane.

“Welcome to Derry” takes place in 1962, focusing on the events leading up to the 2017 film adaptation. Muschietti is already teasing more seasons of the show, assuming the first does well, and says new seasons would take place in 1935 and 1908.
Skarsgård will star with Taylour Paige (“Zola”), Jovan Adepo (“Watchmen”), Chris Chalk (“Perry Mason”), James Remar (“Oppenheimer”), Madeleine Stowe (“Revenge”), and Stephen Rider (“Daredevil”). Alongside Alixandra Fuchs (“Hatfields & McCoys”), Kimberly Guerrero (“The English”), Dorian Grey (“Star Trek: Discovery”), Thomas Mitchell (“Gangland Undercover”), BJ Harrison (“Family Law”), Peter Outerbridge (“Saw VI”), Shane Marriott (“Fargo”), Chad Rook (“Billy the Kid”), Joshua Odjick (“Little Bird”), Rudy Mancuso (“The Flash”), and Morningstar Angeline (“Echo”).
