In 1999, the world of skateboarding and video games crossed over in a way that would be more successful than anyone involved in them could’ve anticipated. That was the year that Activision published, Tony Hawk‘s Pro Skater. Subsequent iterations of the title would perfect an already amazing formula that linked level exploration, fluid controls, and precision gaming together with killer soundtracks and skateboarding culture. The last time we heard from the franchise though was in 2020 with a compilation remake of the first two titles in the series. Now, five years later, something seems to be happening again with the legendary series.

The history of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise is a story with some remarkable highs and some horrendous lows. Depending on who you talk to, you’ll hear that the series peaked sometime around 2002 – 2003 with the release of Pro Skater 4 or Tony Hawk’s Underground. It bottomed out with the motion-controlled games of Ride and Shread in 2009 and 10 respectively. Then it tried to come back in 2015 with Pro Skater 5 and bombed terribly due to the game being a rushed, buggy, incomplete mess. That’s why when the aforementioned Pro Skater 1 + 2 came out and was very warmly received, it was baffling that nothing happened after that.
The official website for the series has a countdown timer that’s set to end 3/4/2025. While we don’t officially know what the announcement is for, it’s not hard to have an educated guess at it, especially given the date. 3/4 of 2025? Sounds like a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake is coming our way.
It that’s indeed what we’re getting and its being given the same care as the previous remake, gaming fans are going to be eating well, so to say. Both of those titles were well received in their original forms and helped make enough iterations to perfect the formula, rather than reinvent it. That reinvention would come with Underground, making 3 + 4 the pinnacle of the original Pro Skater formula. There’s a substantial amount of content in those titles too, and if the previous remake is any indication, they’re going to get more than just a graphical face lift.
We’ll let you know what we find out about the Tony Hawk site count down when March 3rd hits.
