There have been so many shows debuting, getting canceled, and being renewed across so many different networks and platforms that it’s hard to keep up with them. Remember the “Halo“ series on Paramount+? Yup, that was cancelled. Meanwhile, “The Last of Us“ has its second season hitting HBO this coming April. “Arcane“ got canned after its second season on Netflix.
“Twisted Metal“ on Peacock… got renewed for a season two? When did that happen? Last year?! Well hot damn, that seems like decades ago with everything that’s been going on. But yes indeed, the action/comedy, vehicular assault series got itself a second season, and it’s coming up on us later this year.
“Twisted Metal” was one of several video game properties that got snatched up for an adaptation a few years ago. Once Hollywood started realizing that you could make critically and commercially successful films and television shows based on video games, a slew of projects were announced. While the game was beloved in its day and was one of the biggest early hits for the PlayStation, the franchise has been dead since 2012. That was when the series was rebooted for PS3, kind of did okay, and faded away again.

Despite the gap in time between the latest game and the series, the games must have carried enough clout to get people watching. It helps that the show has one hell of a cast with Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Will Arnett, and Thomas Haden Church in main roles. And it probably doesn’t hurt either that the writing and production team of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have helped develop the series. They’re also the team that worked on all three of the Deadpool films.

The show’s first season was a pretty far cry from the story set out in the games. What little story the titles had revolved around a vehicular combat tournament being held by a mysterious entity named, “Calypso.” The winner would supposedly have whatever wish they want granted by Calypso. That wasn’t tackled in the show. The season introduced characters that were featured in the games but it was more Twisted Metal in concept than anything. Not so in season two though, they are going right into the tournament and making that a talking point in the trailer. It also briefly teases the introduction of Axel, an iconic character that was introduced in the second game and is possibly the series’ second most recognizable character next to Sweet Tooth.

This upcoming season isn’t too far away from hitting our screens. “Twisted Metal” season two is coming to Peacock this summer. We’ll let you know when an official release date drops. Until then, check out the trailer below or head over to Peacock and watch the 10-episode, first season.
