    Callum Turner Gives Update on Apple TV+’s “Neuromancer” Series

    We have exciting news about Apple TV+’s upcoming “Neuromancer” show, based on William Gibson’s ground-breaking series. BAFTA Award-nominee and series star Callum Turner spilled the beans during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival.

    “Neuromancer” is a 1984 novel by Gibson that laid the groundwork for the cyberpunk genre. It centers around Henry Case, a top-rung super-hacker whose nervous system has been crippled by a former employer. A new employer offers him one last high-stakes mission thrusting him and his partner Molly back into the world of digital espionage. Will Case and the mirrored-eyed assassin Molly be able to complete the mission? Or will a corporate dynasty with untold secrets defeat the duo?

    “Neuromancer”

    During the Sundance Film Festival premiere of “Atropia,” Turner, who plays Case on the show, gave an update on shooting. He revealed the crew had already completed two weeks of filming. The bulk of that shooting took place in Tokyo, then briefly in London before the festival began. Turner also gushed over Gibson’s “poetic” style of writing and praised showrunners Graham Roland (“Dark Winds”) and JD Dillard (“Devotion”).

    While that may not sound like much, it does hint at how closely the show will follow the book. The first novel in the trilogy “Neuromancer” starts with Case living as a low-level hustler in Chiba City, Japan. So it’s safe to assume that Case’s connections to Japan will be explored, to some degree, in the 10-episode series. 

    The fact that Gibson is involved as an executive producer for seemingly more than a vanity credit is also a good sign. “I answer showrunner’s and director’s questions about the source material,” Gibson explained on x (formally Twitter). “I read drafts and make suggestions. And that’s it, really, though my previous experience has been that that winds up being quite a lot of work in itself.” 

    We’ll keep you posted on updates about the “Neuromancer” series as it develops.
