We are opening 2025 with some of the least shocking news imaginable. Hot on the heels of “Squid Game” season 2’s premiere, Netflix has greenlit a 3rd and final season. The streamer has already crafted some teaser art and set a release window for later this year.
The first season of “Squid Game” hit Netflix in 2021 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Its story centers around a lethal competition that draws in players with the promise of a $45.6 billion cash prize. Season 1 centers around Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a desperate father who enters the game and is manipulated by forces beyond his comprehension. Namely, Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) a mysterious figure who helps manage the game. Season 2 picks up three years after the events of the 1st season. It follows Gi-hun as he reenters the competition and works to put an end to the game.

He also teases that season 3 will be just as exciting as its predecessors. “I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story,” says Hwang. “We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride.”
