Apple TV+ Greenlights “Lucky” Starring Anya Taylor-Joy

From Princess Peach to Furiosa, Anya Taylor-Joy has had some major film roles over the last few years. It was “The Queen’s Gambit” in 2020 that really put her in the spotlight. The Netflix limited series was a critical success, netting Taylor-Joy a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination. It’s been a few years since she dipped her toes into another series with “Peaky Blinders,” but she’ll be doing so with Apple TV+ and “Lucky.”

The show is based on a novel of the same name by Marissa Stapley. It tells the story of a young woman with a dark, crime riddled past that she has spent years trying to distance herself from. However, she’s pulled back in once again in an attempt to fully put the past behind her. Taylor-Joy will be serving as an executive producer alongside Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon previously featured the book in her Reese’s Book Club.

Jonathan Tropper (“Warrior,” “Banshee“) will executive produce, and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Cassie Pappas. Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon’s production company, will be working on the series alongside Apple Studios and Tropper Ink. Apple has had previous working arrangements with Tropper and Hello Sunshine is currently finding success on the streaming platform with “The Morning Show.”

The series is looking to start production in early 2025. It’s good to see Tropper heading another show. Both “Banshee” and “Warrior” were criminally underrated and underpromoted. “Lucky” has the potential to be right up his alley of mixing suspenseful drama with action.

We’ll see how things continue to develop as the series approaches production.
