Javier Bardem to Lead “Cape Fear” Series for Apple TV+

“Cape Fear” is getting another remake. The original J. Lee Thompson-directed 1962 film was a captivating thriller that got remade by director Martin Scorsese in 1991. Seems like every three decades or so the story comes back around again. This time, as a series for Apple TV+.

    Universal Pictures

The property will be adapted into a 10-episode series for Apple TV+. Javier Bardem is set to play the despicable criminal, Max Cady. The role was previously played by Robert Mitchum and Robert De Niro in the original and remake, respectively.

(He was also played by Sideshow Bob in the famous “The Simpsons” episode “Cape Feare.” Remember the one where Sideshow Bob steps on a rake for like, a minute and a half straight? It’s a “Cape Fear” parody.)

Scorsese won’t be completely left out of this version. The legendary director will serve as an executive producer for the series, alongside Steven Spielberg. Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment helped produce the Scorsese version back in the day. Nick Antosca (“Hannibal,” “Teen Wolf,” “Channel Zero“) will serve as showrunner and writer.

Javier Bardem “Dune Part Two” Legendary, Warner Bros. Pictures

Bardem played ruthless killer Anton Chigurh in “No Country for Old Men,” faced off against James Bond in “Skyfall,” led the Fremen as Stilgar in Denis Villenueve‘s two “Dune“ films, and can most recently be seen as the father of the Menendez Brothers in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” He can play menacing as well as he can play charismatic and is more than a solid choice for the role of Cady. It’ll be nice to see in the coming weeks and months who he’ll be terrorizing as the cast rounds out.

We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
