Oscar-nominee Eddie Murphy (“Beverly Hills Cop”) is boarding the mothership for a biopic about the legendary music group Parliament-Funkadelic. Bill Condon (“Kiss of the Spider Woman”) will direct for Amazon MGM Studios.
Murphy will be bringing the funk and playing the group’s otherworldly frontman, the legendary George Clinton.
The currently untitled biopic is based on Clinton’s memoir, “Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You?.” It will be the untold story of the forming of the musical collective and Clinton’s personal journey. Becoming pioneers of funk by employing sci-fi themes, surreal sounds, and psychedelic shows. Solidifying Parliament-Funkadelic’s status as cultural icons.
The script will be written by Virgil Williams, from an original draft by Max Werner. This biopic is produced by Murphy through his Eddie Murphy Productions banner, with John Davis via Davis Entertainment, Catherine Davis, and Greg Yolen. Charisse Hewitt-Webster for Eddie Murphy Productions, Clinton, Archie Ivy, and Jeff Jampol will executive produce.
This will be Murphy and Condon’s second time working together following 2006’s “Dreamgirls.”
We’ll keep you posted on updates about this Parliament-Funkadelic biopic as they become available. Below you can enjoy Clinton’s cameo in 1997’s “Good Burger.“
