You can’t stop the thunder. It seems that Paramount Pictures is looking to make a sequel to its NASCAR drama “Days of Thunder.” Tom Cruise (“Mission: Impossible”) is reportedly in early talks with the studio about reprising his role.
“Days of Thunder,” was directed by the late Tony Scott (“The Hunger“), and first hit theaters in 1990. The film centers around Cole Trickle (Cruise) as he enters the high-pressure world of NASCAR racing. He is a hot new driver with an even hotter temper, and his attitude soon gets him into trouble with other drivers, as well as his own team.
The cast also included Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Cary Elwes, Caroline Williams, and Michael Rooker.
As for the follow-up, this early into development plot details and creative direction are being kept under wraps. Cruise is currently the only name even remotely attached to the project.
You can catch Cruise in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two,” which hits theaters on May 23rd, 2025.
