Writer-director Otis Blum will be making his feature film debut with the Area 51 dramedy “Hello Out There.” The film just wrapped shooting in New Mexico and stars Chloe Bennet (“Interior Chinatown”) and Phil Dunster (“Ted Lasso”).
“Hello Out There,” tells the story of Minnie (Bennet), a young journalist, and her cousin Rex (Dunster), a punk guitarist fresh out of rehab. The duo embark on a road trip to investigate Area 51 and unearth the truth about extraterrestrial life. But as they trek on, a deeper, more personal reason for their journey comes to light.
“This is a story about connection,” Blum said. “How do we connect from one individual to another, and from one planet to another? Humans have always looked up at the sky and wondered if anything is looking back.”
“It has been such a joy working with this incredible team, and I’m beyond excited for the world to see what we have built together,” he adds. “I have always wanted to tell a story that is not only set in New Mexico, but also highlights its beauty, magic, and unique strangeness. It’s a place that means a lot to me, and it was so special to work with a primarily New Mexican crew telling a New Mexican tale.”
Thomas Mahoney will produce for Handsome Watson alongside Purple Intuition.
There is no set release date for “Hello Out There” just yet. We’ll keep you posted on updates as the project develops.
