Introduction: Leather jackets or jackets made of leather normally have a long life span:

A leather jacket is not just a piece of clothing that you wear; it’s more of saving up. As has been noted earlier, there are stores of leather jackets that are still in circulation today despite the fact that they were produced many decades ago; in other words, if used with proper care, a good quality slim fit leather jacket will last for generations. Leather’s strength when added with the desirability of the product is favored by the young and the old and in between. Thus, the question is how long do leather jackets last and how to keep your leather jacket as bright as new. Now it is time to explore the concept of leather to find out what makes it so timeless.

Understanding Leather Quality: The ‘Longevity’ or the secret to live a long and healthy life.

Most of the aspects of a leather jacket’s durability can therefore be summed up to; the quality of the leather in particular. The material used in making leather is of premium quality and used products can easily last a lifetime if well taken care of. But, it is pertinent to note that not all leathers are alike. If you go to the market, you will get to know various kinds of leather but with different yielding capacity and its life span.

This is why Premium Leather is always superior to Synthetic Imitations.

Highest of all the leather types is the full-grain leather which is cut from the outer layer of the animal skin. This kind of leather is not sanded or polished and as a result they may have some kind of uneven surface which is actually good for the material since it adds on the strength of the material. A full-grain leather jackets is known to be able to last for almost years, by creating a natural finish over that period of time.

Next is the top-grain leather that as been slightly sanded in order to eliminate some blemishes on the surface. While not as dense as full-grain it still possesses very good wear-resistance, and actually gets slightly better with age. However bonded leather or fake leather or any other synthetic material that is used in making jackets are relatively far less durable. Such materials are thereafter chemically treated and therefore cannot serve the same lifespan as a genuine leather. Albeit, they may attract through their outward appearances in the first instance, but they bear ugly faces in the second instance and as such, they lack the potential of sustainable investment.

Types of Leather and Their Lifespan: Neither defects nor fluke: determining the best one

Leather material is another factor that one must not forget when choosing leathers especially when choosing a leather jacket. The two types are different in nature and come with some features that may enhance or shorten their duration or may be fit for particular use.

    – Cowhide Leather: Often used and preferred by people living in colder climates due to it high degree of durability and hardness, cowhide leather material. It is denser in nature than other kinds of leathers and offers good warmth and protection to the product. Cowhide jacket is not as smooth as other leathers, however it hardens with time and if treated right the furniture may last for years.

    – Goatskin Leather: Goatskin is hard with large grain which makes it flexible and can therefore not be easily damaged. Though less tough as cowhide it is more flexible and provides more comfort than the tough hide. Goatskin is also water proof and comparatively lighter in weight which is suitable for all weather conditions.

    – Sheepskin Leather: Infinitely more malleable than goatskin, sheepskin is appreciated for its pliability and smoothness. Ever stylish, it is lighter in weight and gives a rather plush feel to the wearer, which makes the product a major hit. Nonetheless, sheepskin is very tough and works as a very efficient material due to its long lasting nature.

    – Lambskin Leather: As its name suggests it is the softest type of leather; is used in luxury products but may not be as hard-wearing as cowhide or goatskin. This is ideal for those who wear it in some formal events, special occasions and holidays which do not require intensive activities that demands wear and tear on the shoes. Thus, while lambskin jackets are not nearly as long lasting as those produced with other sorts of leathers they are still relatively well lasting garments if looked after adequately.

Spotting the Difference: Main Difference: Genuine Leather vs. Fake Leather

In the present world of fashion and trends, it becomes very important to make a difference between real leather and the faux leather if you are aiming for durability. Here are some tips to identify genuine leather:Here are some tips to identify genuine leather:
