Get ready to turn that frown upside down. Writer/director Parker Finn‘s film “Smile” was the surprise horror hit of 2022. Paramount Pictures just released the first terrifying teaser trailer for his follow-up film, “Smile 2.”

Finn will once again be writing and directing the upcoming feature. Kyle Gallner will reprise his role as Joel. Starring alongside cast newcomers Naomi Scott (“Anatomy of a Scandal”), Lukas Gage (“Dead Boy Detectives”), and Rosemarie DeWitt (“The Boys”).

“Smile” told the story of psychiatrist Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) who witnesses the traumatic death of a patient. Afterwards, she is tormented by people doing horrific things in front on her with unnerving smiles plastered on their faces. The movie made $216 million globally on a budget of $17 million.

    “Smile 2”’s Plot

“Smile 2,” centers around global pop sensation Skye Riley (Scott), as she’s about to embark on a world tour. That is, until she begins to experience increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her past.

In the teaser we see Skye give a very Lady Gaga-esque performance. When she goes to her dressing room her solitude is disturbed by Lucas racing in and screaming at an unseen entity in the room. As Skye tries to calm him down, a horrific smile creeps across his face, before he beats his own face in with a weight.

    Bloodier Than The First?

“I was really shocked how intense it is on the day,” Gage told The Hollywood Reporter. “You just think, ‘Oh, it’s acting, it’s gonna be fine,’ but that movie is so scary. The whole crew was terrified. That smile itself is just so creepy, and then you throw the most gory scenes on top of it.”

Gage went on to praise Finn’s work on the film. “He just takes it to the next level, and we have some really cool cameos happening in this movie,” he added.

“Smile 2” will hit theaters on October 18th. You can check out the first teaser trailer below:
