The early 2000s gave us some pretty cool cartoons like Disney‘s “Kim Possible,” Nickelodeon‘s “Invader Zim,” and many more. One show that really stood out was the French sensation “Totally Spies!.” The series followed three teenage girls from Beverly Hills, who lived double lives as secret agents. Interestingly enough, the series is still going strong with almost 200 episodes. This show has expanded through it’s popularity and now there is going to be a new spin-off series.

Emmy-winner and comedian Will Ferrell is executive producing a live-action “Totally Spies!” series for Amazon. The new show will follow the trio of Alex, Sam, and Clover as they try to balance being spies in their first year of college. The live-action series will be a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Banijay Kids & Family. Amazon’s head of Pan-English original series Rola Bauer is shepherding the project. Currently there is no writer for the new show.
Ferrell is joined in executive producing by fellow Gloria Sanchez Productions producers Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor. Banijay Kids & Family CEO Benoît Di Sabatino will also executive produce for the French studio.
“’Totally Spies!’ is a huge success for Banijay Kids & Family, having been translated in 60 languages and sold to more than 220 territories,” Di Sabatino said. “With a social media base of 3 million, the series continues to thrive in its animation form with the recently launched 7th season.” Di Sabatino would go on to explain how thrilled the studio is to work on the new project with Amazon.
“Will, Alix and I are thrilled to be joining our partners at Amazon and Banijay to bring ‘Totally Spies!’ to life as a live-action show,” Gloria Sanchez President Elbaum said. “Gloria Sanchez was originally founded to tell stories about complicated characters and empower female voices and storytellers.” The animated series is full of themes of girl power and friendship, so we are interested in how it will translate to live-action.
The series was created by Vincent Chalvon-Demersay and David Michel. Along with the near 200 episodes, they also released a prequel movie and the spin-off series “The Amazing Spiez!.” The seventh season recently premiered in France and is expected to air on Cartoon Network later this year. The original cartoon is currently streaming on Prime Video and their YouTube account.
We will follow this story and report as more develops.
