After last year’s “Blue Beetle” movie underperformed at the box office, fans thought it was over for Jaime Reyes’ adventures. However, Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios haven’t given up on our favorite arthropod, as a new animated series is currently in development.

    The Creative Team

The project has been in the works since earlier this year with Miguel Puga (“The Casagrandes”) set as showrunner and director. The script for the series will be handled by Cristian Martinez (“Women of the Movement”).

Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the 2023 film, will executive produce with John Rikard who also executive produced the movie. One of the movie’s other executive producers, Galen Vaisman, will oversee the series for DC Studios.

Based on the DC comic of the same name, 2023’s film follows an alien scarab that chooses Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) to be its symbiotic host. This gives the recent college graduate a suit of armor that’s capable of extraordinary powers. Powers that forever change his destiny as he becomes the superhero known as Blue Beetle.

    Possible “Blue Beetle” Cast

While there is currently no cast attached to the upcoming animated series. Rumors are swirling that Maridueña and other cast members from the movie may return. There are reports that indicate several cast members have been approached with positive responses, but nothing is in writing yet.

The plot details for the “Blue Beetle” animated series are also vague. But it will build on the movie, without just rehashing the same story over again.

We will keep you posted on updates about the “Blue Beetle” animated series as they become available. The 2023 movie is currently streaming on MAX. You can check out a trailer for it below:
