In 2013, the series “Peaky Blinders” premiered on BBC Two, with Netflix picking it up the following year. The show centers around a notorious gang in 1919 Birmingham, England, led by the fierce Tommy Shelby, a crime boss set on moving up in the world no matter the cost. It ran until 2022 developing a dedicated fan following.

After months of rumors, Netflix has officially confirmed that a “Peaky Blinders” film is in the works. Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) will be reprising his role as the ruthless Tommy.

“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…” Murphy said about the project. ”It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

    The Team Behind “Peaky Blinders”

Tom Harper (“War & Peace”), who directed the second half of the first season, will also be directing the currently untitled film. The script will be penned by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight. Production is slated to start later this year.

“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” Harper said. “Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”

Tommy Shelby returns. A Peaky Blinders Film starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix.

At this time plot details are still under wraps. However, Knight previously said the film would be set during World War II.  “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” says Knight. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

Producers for the film include Knight, Murphy, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley. Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason will executive produce.

We keep you posted on updates about the “Peaky Blinders” movie, as they become available. You can catch all 6 seasons of the TV show streaming on Netflix.
