If you grew up in the 90s, you probably had dreams of competing on “American Gladiators.” (Which were more than likely crushed when the show was canceled in 1996.) You’re in luck if you still long to hit someone with a giant Q-tip because Amazon Prime Video is rebooting the competition series.
But what is a competition without contestants? A nationwide search is currently underway to find the next crop of “American Gladiators.”

The series will continue to have players face off against elite gladiators in made-for-TV competitions. It will include some all-new challenges as well as some classic fan favorites like; “Gauntlet,” “Hang Tough,” and “The Eliminator.”
Both Amazon MGM Studios and MGM Alternative will produce the upcoming series.
“Gladiators is an enduring, physical challenge format that continues to engage families around the world,” said Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation for Amazon MGM Studios. “We look forward to delighting our global Prime Video customers with both reimagined and nostalgic elements that celebrate the best of the original series.”
Rumors have been swirling about a reboot since April when Range Sports signed “American Gladiators” creator Johnny Ferraro. The deal puts forth plans to develop the IP “across TV, film, attractions, merchandise and live events.”
Past “American Gladiators” Reboots
The original “American Gladiators,” ran in syndication from 1989 until 1996. In 2008, NBC re-started the series for primetime television. It was rebooted once again earlier this year by the BBC and is already being picked up for a second series. There was also Netflix’s 5-episode docuseries “Muscles & Mayhem: The Unauthorized Story of American Gladiators.”
We’ll keep you posted on updates about Prime Video’s “American Gladiators” as they become available.
