In 1996, the first “Tomb Raider” video game hit the shelves for PC, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn consoles. This jump-started a decades-long, multi-platform phenomenon consisting of 19 more games, movies, comics, and now an animated series. Netflix announced that its upcoming animated series “Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft,” will be releasing LATER THIS YEAR!

“The Legend Of Lara Croft” will pick up after the story arch in the “Survivor” trilogy of games (“Tomb Raider,” “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”). Coiced by Hayley Atwell (“Agent Carter,” “Mission: Impossible“), British archaeologist Lara Croft must abandon her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. However, she has to return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor. She soon discovers these thieves have an uncanny personal connection to her.
Lara’s international pursuit of these thieves will take her to the depths of forgotten tombs. There she will be forced to confront her true self and must decide what kind of hero she wants to be.

Atwell stars with Earl Baylon, who is reprising his role as Jonah Maiava from the games, along with Allen Maldonado.
“The Legend of Lara Croft” is written and executive produced by Tasha Huo (“The Witcher: Blood Origin”). Other executive producers include Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, Jacob Robinson, Dallas Dickinson, Noah Hughes, Howard Bliss, and Jen Chambers.
“Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft,” hits Netflix on October 10th. You can check out the teaser trailer below:
