In 1980, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton poured themselves a cup of ambition in the comedy “9 to 5.” Now, Jennifer Aniston (“Friends”) and her Echo Films partner Kristin Hahn will produce the reimagining for 20th Century Studios.

“9 to 5” is currently in development, with a script by Diablo Cody (“Lisa Frankenstein”). But, no plot details have been released at this time.

The original film was directed by Colin Higgins, who co-wrote it with Patricia Resnick. It tells the story of 3 co-workers who decide to exact revenge on their sexist, egotistical boss. The movie was an immediate hit with an iconic soundtrack by Parton. It was spun off into an ABC sitcom that ran from 1982 to 1983, and in first-run syndication from 1986 to 1988.

In 2022, the documentary “Still Working 9 to 5” explored the film’s cultural impact with the participation of all three leads. Parton also wrote the music and lyrics for the Tony-nominated musical adaptation of the film.

We will keep you posted on updates about the “9 to 5” reimagining as they become available. The original film is currently streaming on Tubi.
