“Saw XI” is Coming in 2025

Last year, horror fans got a pleasant surprise with “Saw X.” By the tenth installment most franchises start to lose steam or become impossible to follow. But “Saw X” was a huge box office hit and the best-reviewed entry in the franchise. So, of course, Lionsgate quickly greenlit “Saw XI” which just got its first teaser trailer and a pushed-back 2025 release date.

“Saw XI,” was originally slated to hit theaters on September 27, 2024, but that has changed to September 26, 2025. No cause for this delay was given, but it seems that the film hasn’t even entered production yet. While this may be a bit of a letdown, we hope it means that the studio wants to take its time and ensure a quality film.

“Saw XI” will be directed by Kevin Greutert, who also headed up the previous installment.  A writing team has yet to be disclosed.

    Possible Plot

At this time, no plot details have been made public. While the teaser does feature Billy the Puppet telling us they are working on a “cacophony of new traps.” That doesn’t tell us much since a “Saw” movie without Billy or traps is like a day without sunshine. The franchise may continue with John Kramer aka Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) or it may decide to go in a different direction.

Spoilers below for “Jigsaw” and “Saw X”

A post-credit scene of the last film reunited John with his apprentice Detective Mark Huffman (Costas Mandylor). The big problem plotwise is that in the current timeline, Jigsaw is already dead. “Saw X” got around this by taking place between the first two films, “Jigsaw” also went the surprise pre-queal route.

Eventually, the franchise will hit a point where no amount of backward baseball caps will make Bell look young enough to take place in the past. Not to mention it has been made abundantly clear in the past that no other actor will play Jigsaw. Meaning the films will have to come back into a more modern timeline. So either Jigsaw didn’t actually die (unlikely) or the baton will need to be passed to Mark or Amanda.

“Saw XI” will hit theaters on September 26, 2025. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the film as they become available.
