Comic book fans are certainly known for their creativity, and a recently viral “Batman Beyond” short is highlighting that. Despite the series being off the air for over twenty years at this point, the short has fans clamoring for a long-desired film.
“Batman Beyond” ran from 1999 until 2001. It centered around high schooler, Terry McGinnis, who is fuelled by remorse and vengeance. He is taken under the wing of an elderly Bruce Wayne to revive Batman in a harsh, futuristic Gotham. Even though the series had a relatively short run, it has been a favorite among fans for quite some time.
The Movie Pitch
Earlier this year, production designer/producer for “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” Yuhki Demers, joined forces with “My Dad the Bounty Hunter” director Patrick Harpin. The duo put together a pitch for an animated “Batman Beyond” movie that was presented to Warner Bros Discovery.
“Before we pitched, they warned us ‘there is absolutely no way we can do a Beyond movie,’ but they loved our enthusiasm,” Demers explains. “We pitched the outline for the entire film, and what started as a ‘never’ turned into a ‘maybe’. In the time since, we’ve been pitching our way up the company hoping to get to James Gunn.”
“Batman Beyond” Short
After this information was revealed to the public, fan Vehgeto decided to animate what the original artwork might have looked like. Their “Batman Beyond Teaser (Concept)” video has amassed 12k views in the nine days since it has hit the internet.
While it may not be a full-on feature film, Terry may be returning to the DC animated universe anyway. “Batman Beyond” is featured in promotional materials for the upcoming “Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 2.” However, it has not been confirmed if it will be McGinnis or not since there have been versions from the future that have Tim Drake in a similar costume.
We won’t know for sure until “Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 2” is released on April 23rd. You can check out Vehgeto’s short below:
