Limited “X-Men ’97” Comic Fills in Gaps Between Series

Disney+’s new series “X-Men ’97” is only three episodes deep and already getting high praise from fans. In fact, one of the only complaints about the new show is that it’s only releasing one episode a week, leaving many viewers looking for something to fill in the gaps. [It’s 2024, let us binge-watch or nothing!]

Luckily Marvel Comics has just released “X-Men ’97” issue 1 to fill the void and fill in some of the blanks for the new series.

This is the first of a new four-issue limited series that bridges the gap between “X-Men: The Animated Series,” which ended in 1997, and “X-Men ’97.” The comics are written by Steve Foxe, with art by Salva Espin, color by Matt Milla, and letters by Joe Sabino.

Warning: minor spoilers for both the series and comic below.

The first issue has already started to answer questions about Jean Grey/Madelyne Pryor’s pregnancy and Storm’s new haircut. It also sets up Mister Sinister and his Nasty Boys as the main antagonists for the rest of the comics. As well as eluding to a fight between the X-men and Sinister’s other team of evil mutants, the Marauders. Which, of course, still includes Wolverine’s arch-enemy Sabretooth.

Just like the Disney+ show, this comic so far, has captured a lot of what fans love about “X-Men: The Animated Series.” Right down to the clean, expressive tone of its animation. It is very clear that Stan Lee’s “Every comic is someone’s first” philosophy is alive and well at Marvel.

    More Issues are Coming

“X-Men ’97” issue 1 hit shelves on March 27th. The second and third issues will be released on April 10th and May 22, respectively. You can check them out here. There is no word on when the fourth issue will hit shelves.

The fourth episode of “X-Men ’97” will hit Disney+ on April 3rd. Check out a trailer now-
