“Twilight” Reboot *IS* Happening, Will be Animated

I very much don’t like to judge someone or shame someone for their fandoms. Reading is important, having favorite films is great, and sharing a love of something with friends is essential. But when that thing is “Twilight,” I feel I’m allowed to sigh and shake my head.

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson “Twilight” Lionsgate

The series about angsty teens, vampires, and werewolves was written by Stephanie Meyer, and spawned four highly grossing films. It also inspired a slew of fanfic, including but not limited to, “50 Shades of Grey.” It also changed San Diego Comic-Con forever, but that’s a different thing entirely.

In 2023, news of a possible “Twilight” reboot was whispered around town. The talk quickly indicated Lionsgate was looking at a series, not a film. Well, that was back in April of 2023, and there’s finally more news. During the Morgan Stanley media conference over the weekend, Lionsgate Vice Chairman Vice Chairman Michael Burns offered some updates.

“We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that,” Burns said. So, not a lot of information, but definitely a change in direction. That’s sort of all anyone knows about it so far.

Burns also said another “John Wick” series may be viable too. “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series,” he said. “We ended up making a very relatively short-term deal on that show with Peacock and Amazon,” referencing “The Continental” 3-part series. Not really much about that project, either.

We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
