We’ve got some exciting news out of DC Studios today! Wendell Pierce (“The Wire,” “Suits“) has joined the cast of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. While it kicked around for a while as “Superman: Legacy,” it has been retitled to just “Superman.”
Pierce will play editor-in-chief of The Daily Planet, Perry White, who was introduced in the 1940 radio serial. White is boss to Clark Kent (Superman’s secret identity), fellow reporter Lois Lane, and photographer Jimmy Olsen. The character has had several management styles over the decades, including being tough-as-nails, harried-by-his-reporters, and even a father figure in some iterations. So there is no telling what version of White we may get.
White has previously been played by Jackie Cooper in the Christopher Reeves films, Michael McKean in “Smallville,” Frank Langella in Bryan Singer’s “Superman Returns,” and Laurence Fishburne during the 2010s Snyderverse era.
The film began shooting in Atlanta on February 29th, which is Superman’s birthday. Pierce will be joining David Corenswet as our titular hero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Alongside Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.
“Superman” is slated to be released on July 11th, 2025. We’ll keep you posted on updates about it as they become available.
