Sky Studios will be rocking us with an updated version of the 1979 stage play, “Amadeus.” The upcoming limited series will star Will Sharpe (“The White Lotus”) as the legendary musician, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The series will center around the epic rivalry between a young Mozart and fellow composer Antonio Salieri.

This upcoming series will be co-directed by Julian Farino and Alice Seabright, from a script by Joe Barton. Farino and Barton previously worked together on 2019’s crime drama series “Giri/Haji.” “Amadeus” is slated to begin shooting later this year.

The series will be another reimagining of Peter Shaffer’s award-winning play, which had successful runs in both London and New York. It also inspired Milos Forman’s 1984 film  “Amadeus,” which took home eight Oscars, including best picture. [Editor’s note: Mark Hamill took over the lead role from the original Broadway star Tim Curry. But due to “Star Wars,” was unable to play the part in the feature film. It instead went to Tom Hulce. Hamill often attributes his signature Joker laugh to prep for the play.]

“Recently unemployed and without the management of his father, Amadeus finds an unlikely ally in a young singer who will become his wife, fiery Constanze Weber Mozart. Her connections help bring him into the orbit of the court composer Antonio Salieri, setting the three of them on a collision course that will ultimately define their lives and their legacies for years to come,” according to the synopsis.

Producers include Two Cities Television, in association with Sky Studios. Paul Gilbert, Megan Spanjian, Michael Jackson, Sharpe, Farino, and Stephen Wright will executive produce.
