The best spider-news we’ve had all week is here with the update that Marc Bernardin will be adapting Neil Gaiman’s “Anansi Boys” into a comic book series for Dark Horse.

Gaiman’s tale takes place in his well trod territory of deities and legends, this time about the trickster spider-god, Anansi. Entrenched in African folklore the way Gaiman has explored divines through “American Gods,” “Norse Mythology,” and “The Sandman,” this novel stands as one of his beloved gems.
Bernardin, known for his work as a journalist before switching to the world of film and television, most recently served as supervising producer on “Star Trek: Picard.” He also wrote the Eisner-nominated YA fantasy novel “Adora and the Distance.”

“I’d always wanted to write and was always a bit of a nerd, but I was early in my journalism career when I discovered The Sandman comic and it was instrumental in me deciding to chase down a career writing fiction,” Bernardin said in a post on Instagram. “Because, I think, I hadn’t really understood everything fiction could be all at once. @neilhimself (Gaiman) opened that door for me.’
Shawn Martinbrough will be drawing the book, with Chris Sotomayor providing coloring, and letters by Jim Campbell.
Can’t get enough of the eight legged legend? Great news: Amazon is already in post production on a live-action version of the story starring Malachi Kirby (2016’s “Roots” and “Small Axe”) and Delroy Lindo (“The Good Fight,” “Da 5 Bloods,” “Romeo Must Die”).
“Anansi Boys” will be adapted into an eight-issue miniseries, with the first issue hitting stores on June 26th.
