Home Depot’s “Braveheart” Claymore Sword Sells Out

Look, we’re all for the average person owning swords. But when Home Depot starts selling two-handed claymores based on Mel Gibson‘s “Braveheart,” we have to start asking some questions. Who thought this was a good idea? Why is this a regular item and not something seasonal from their impressive Halloween collection?

“Reclaim your FREEDOM from the tyrannical English king with this authentic William Wallace sword. This sword is a replica of the sword William Wallace wielded in the movie Braveheart,” Home Depot’s website says. “The blade is made of polished stainless steel and is double edged. The hilt and pommel are composed of polished metal and the handle is wrapped in leather. The sword comes complete with an authentic rough leather sheath that includes a strap to attach this 40.75 in. sword to your belt.”

For only $50, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more affordable weapon at your local Renaissance Faire. But also, please patronize your local faire and festival. At present, the sword is marked as backordered.

If you want to pick up the “Braveheart” 4K for some reason, you can do that on Amazon here.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
