We have some exciting news for horror movie and video game fans! Sony subsidiaries Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions have confirmed a film adaptation of “Until Dawn” is on the way. It’s described as an R-rated love letter to the horror genre, with an ensemble cast. Little is known about the plot, and no casting announcements have been made yet.
“Shazam!” and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” helmer David F. Sandberg will direct. The initial script for the film was written by Blair Butler (“The Invitation”) but will be passed on to Gary Dauberman (“The Nun”).
The video game “Until Dawn” follows a group of eight friends who are trapped together on a remote mountain retreat. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they soon realize they are not alone. Gripped by dread, and tensions running high, they must fight through their fear if they hope to make it through the night.
The interactive horror game first hit shelves in 2015. It’s live-or-die scenarios and mysterious killer quickly made “Until Dawn” a huge success among fans of the genre. It was luckily just as big of a hit with critics garnering a BAFTA for Best Original Property along with several other nominations.
Dauberman will also be producing under his Coin Operated banner, as a part of a first-look deal with Screen Gems and Sony. Alongside Sandberg and Lotta Losten under their company Mangata Shingle, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Screen Gems’ newly appointed head Ashley Brucks, will be overseeing production for the studio along with Michael Bitar.
