Nicole Kidman’s Iconic AMC Suit Up for Auction

Famed auction house Sotheby’s will be selling the suit Nicole Kidman wore in her much-memed ad for AMC Theaters. The garment is a grey wool, cashmere crystal pinstripe jumpsuit from Michael Kors’ 40th Anniversary Fall/Winter 2021 Collection. That and being worn by Kidman would, in itself, command a high price tag. The ensemble is estimated between $5,000 to $10,000 simply due to how popular the ad became.

Once COVID-19 restrictions began to relax, AMC was looking for a way to bring viewers back to theaters. So, they launched a schmaltzy campaign with Kidman talking about the emotional journey of seeing a film on the big screen.

While moviegoers have a reputation for hating ads, audiences seemed to embrace how over-the-top this campaign was with more over-the-top reactions. Many committed the script to memory to recite along with the actress. Some handed out scripts to fellow moviegoers so they could also join in the fun. Think of a live show of “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” but with less stuff being thrown at the screen. And that’s not even mentioning the group who actually clap, cheer, and even stand and salute when the ad plays.

The suit is part of Sotheby’s Visions of America series. It is a celebration of American craftsmanship and culture filled with auctions, events, and experiences. It will encompass three floors worth of gallery space at the company’s New York headquarters. Covering 17th-century American art to today, the auction includes fine art, furniture, fashion, decorative arts, folk art, historic maps, books, whiskey, manuscripts, and more.

Loungefly also made this adorable backpack in celebration of the suit itself. As you can see, this thing got memed to death.

Exhibitions of the Visions of America series will be open to the public from January 12th to 19th, with the auction running from January 19th-29th. You can find more information about Kidman’s suit and other items in the series here.

We’ll let you know what it goes for. But don’t worry if you miss out on getting- we all know heartbreak feels good in a place like this.
