As a part of Netflix’s GeekedWeek, the streamer has released a teaser for the upcoming “Dead Boy Detectives” series. The show is based on the Vertigo comics by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. The series revolves around best friends/ghosts Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), who help solve paranormal mysteries in the mortal plane.

“Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives,” the synopsis reads “Meet Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, ‘the brains’ and ‘the brawn’ behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts … who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together — including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.”

The cast also stars Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Ruth Connell, Lukas Gage, and David Iacono. “Dead Boy Detectives,” will be part of the “The Sandman” universe since the characters were originally introduced in Gaiman’s comics of the same name in the early 1990s.

This show also took one heck of a road to come to fruition. It was initially developed in 2022 for HBO Max (now Max) to be a part of its DC Universe. The streamer even had the two characters make an appearance in season three of the “Doom Patrol” series. However, that all fell apart when Warner Bros. Discovery decided to reset the DCU under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. Producer Warner Bros. TV shopped the series, eventually finding a home for it with Netflix, to fit in with its “The Sandman” series.

The first episode is directed and executive-produced by Lee Toland Krieger. Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) developed the series, and will be acting as showrunner and executive producer alongside Beth Schwartz. Gaiman, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jeremy Carver, and Leigh London Redman will also executive produce.

There is no firm release date for the “Dead Boy Detectives” series just yet. You can check out the teaser trailer below:
