Netflix has just released the first trailer for Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro,” a biopic about the life of famed conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein. Cooper directed, starred in, and co-wrote the upcoming feature film with Josh Singer.

In the trailer, we see Bernstein (Cooper) and Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan) jump through time to different points in their relationship. We watch them experience love, betrayal, and most of all music on their journey. The film focuses more on the composer’s relationship with Montealegre than his professional success.
“If summer doesn’t sing in you then nothing sings in you,” says an elderly Bernstein at the beginning of the trailer. Mulligan later finishes the line with “And if nothing sings in you, then you can’t make music,” decades in the past. While their relationship was undoubtedly complex, we still see the string of unity that kept them connected.

The cast for “Maestro” also includes Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor.
Producers for the film include Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Fred Berner, Amy Durning, and Kristie Macosko Krieger. Carla Raij, Josh Singer, Bobby Wilhelm, Weston Middleton, and Tracey Landon will serve as executive producers.
The film made its world premiere on September 2nd, at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a seven-minute stand ovation. We think it’s safe to consider that in itself a rave review. It was also the spotlight gala film at at New York Film Festival.
“Maestro” will have a limited theatrical release starting November 22nd before it hits Netflix on December 20th, 2023. You can check out the full beautifully-scored trailer below:
