Four months ago, Oscar-Meyer wanted to celebrate the change of recipe to their 100% beef franks. In honor, they announced they were redubbing the classic Wienermobile as the Frankmobile. But it just doesn’t roll off the tongue the same way. And when you see it go by, Frank isn’t really the name that springs to mind. And Oscar-Meyer has decided that it’s been long enough celebrating the franks. Time to change the name back to what it’s always been and always be. The Wienermobile.
FRANK-ly, it should have been obvious that the name change wouldn’t fly. The first Wienermobile was created in 1936. And even though it’s gone through several forms over the years, the name has stuck. You need a name as ridiculous as the car. It would have been one thing to change the name twenty years down the line. But it’s proudly been the Wienermobile for more than 80 years! That’s far too late to rebrand the iconic vehicle.
And Oscar-Meyer seems well-aware of that fact. Posting on their Instagram the message “It’s been a franktastic summer! But like you, we missed this BUNderful icon. Help us welcome back the Wienermobile!” Sometimes you just can’t mess with perfection. We’re happy to see the return to form, too. Frankmobile just doesn’t have the same ring. For the vehicle to be named so blatantly after what it is provides no small amount of charm. And, hey, October is coming soon.
If Oscar-Meyer really feels the urge to change the name again, they can call it the FrankenWienermobile for Halloween.
