Zendaya Wants to Direct, Play Villain in Future

Emmy-winning actress Zendaya wants to play a villain in the future, and we are here for it! She notes that majority of her roles tend to be on the “good guy” side. To be honest, we get it- who wouldn’t want to play a villain at least once in their life?

She also wants to direct, which makes sense as she’s already got acting and producing crossed off the list.

“I would love to play a villain of sorts,” Zendaya told Elle. “Tap into that evil, supervillain vibe. Whatever that manifests in, I don’t think necessarily in a superhero sense, but in an emotional sense. I feel like I usually play the good guy, so I’d like to play the bad guy.” (The interview took place shortly before the SAG-AFTRA strike began.)

In terms of directing, Zendaya would love to do it more than once. “To direct a film, hopefully more than just one, but just doing it. The first step to actually doing something yourself is not an easy step to take, so hopefully I can get over the feat.”

Let’s be real here for a second, Zendaya has all the potential in the world. If she ever does get a chance to direct a movie, she’s going to give it her all. And so far, her all is enough to get her two Emmys.

Zendaya’s current upcoming projects are “Challengers,” where she plays a tennis superstar caught in a love triangle. “Challengers” also stars Josh O’Conner and Mike Faist. It was originally set to premiere this September, but has been delayed to 2024. Her other project is “Dune: Part Two,” which has been delayed until March 15th, 2024.

If Zendaya ever gets cast as a villain, our vote is for Talia al Ghul in “Batman.” Check out her full interview with Elle down here:
