The late Richard Donner‘s classic Christmas dramedy “Scrooged” finally has a 4k edition! To commemorate the film’s 35th anniversary, the 4K release of the Bill Murray and Karen Allen-starring film has hours of special features.

“Scrooged” is a modern take on the classic Christmas tale, “A Christmas Carol,” following a greedy TV executive. Frank Cross (Murray) is the epitome of a modern day Scrooge, ironically trying to do a live production of “A Christmas Carol” on Christmas Eve. Cross is visited by the three Christmas Ghosts and has a change of heart, becoming a better man at the end of the story. The film also stars John Glover and Alfre Woodard in the ensemble cast.

“A Christmas Carol” has been adapted countless times, the Muppets version is a personal favorite. However, Donner’s film is one of the more interesting adaptations. The unique blend of comedy, horror, and drama makes “Scrooged” stand out above other adaptations. Donner stayed true to some of the darker undertones in the classic tale. Murray’s portrayal of Cross was amazingly funny. Many feel that this film is one of the better films Murray has stared in.

While there is some disturbing imagery in the film, there is plenty of comedy to balance it out. As someone who watches several adaptations of “A Christmas Carol” every December, “Scrooged” is part of that list.
