WOW, actors Woody Harrelson (“True Detective”) and Owen Wilson (“Loki”) will star in the upcoming crime thriller “Lips Like Sugar.” The new film is directed by Grammy winner Brantley Gutierrez, from a script written by Anthony Tambakis (“Warrior”).

“Lips Like Sugar” will take place during the 1984 Olympic Games which were held in Los Angles, California. This coming-of-age tale is loosely based on a true story set in the punk and skate scenes of West LA. It centers around a budding friendship between two girls from different walks of life, while city officials focus on the Olympics. When one of the girls goes missing, the lives of two former detectives (Harrelson and Wilson) become intertwined.

In addition to starring, Harrelson is also producing “Lips Like Sugar.” Along with Russ Posternak of Post Film, Kevin Chinoy and Francesca Silvestri of Freestyle Picture Company, Jeremy Plager of 7 Deuce, and Kyle Schember of Subtractive. Other producers include Gutierrez, Greg Lauritano, Zac Adams, Anthony Tambakis, with Anna Schwartz serving as a co-producer.

Executive producers include Tara Craig, Jaykant R. Patel, Rama K. Penta, and Raj Penta.  XYZ Films will also be executive producing, and handling worldwide sales.

The film will be scored by Oscar nominee Will Butler (“Her”). Between Butler’s talent and Gutierrez’s directorial experience being mostly with music videos, there is no doubt that the soundtrack to “Lips Like Sugar” will be excellent. [Editor’s note: Sadly we probably WON’T be hearing the Echo & The Bunnymen song of the same name, as it released in 1987.]

Additional casting for the film is still currently underway. Production is slated to begin later this year, with no anticipated release date, yet. We’ll keep you posted on updates about  “Lips Like Sugar” as they become available.
