Yes, we’ve covered a lot of casting news about the “Frasier“ revival, but this might be the biggest news yet. Throughout the lead up to this series being developed and announced, there was repeated emphasis that the original cast would not be returning. Whether this was meant to be kept secret for a while, or a change of heart happened, we are thrilled to know that Frasier’s old radio producer, Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin) will be guest appearing in the upcoming show.

Other minor characters from the shared “Frasier” – “Cheers” universe are also appearing. Notably Frasier’s son Freddy, and David, the son of Daphne and Niles. This will be the first time we’ve seen David since he was a baby in the original series finale. David Hyde-Pierce and Jane Leeves are not be returning as Niles and Daphne, however.
Gilpin’s role as Ros was an interesting one in the show’s original run. In early seasons she was supposed to act as a foil to Frasier, showing her expertise and talent as a producer was a match for his intellectualism. Out of all the characters on the show, hers got the short end of the stick in terms of screen time and prominence. In the series finale, Ros’s quest for love never found a resolution.
Instead, she became the director of the radio station KACL, taking over the position from Kenny. While it was some kind of resolution, it wasn’t that big of a payoff considering everyone else on the series found a special someone, except for her. You can argue of course that the radio station was her special someone, along with Ros’s daughter, Alice.
We are so glad Gilpin is returning as Ros. The revival of “Frasier” has no announced release date, but it will stream exclusively on Paramount+.
