There’s no small amount of people that go for big gestures when popping the question. But the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Which is exactly how it went when an exuberant Dodger fan’s plan for the perfect proposal went pear-shaped on execution. Ricardo Juarez hoped to make proposing to his girlfriend memorable. During a break in the ballgame, Juarez ran out onto the field and took up position. On one knee, that is. Only to be brutally tackled by security within seconds.
Phone cameras were rolling on the incident, and many cheered Juarez’ boldness. But the poor man is suddenly set upon by security in a move that looks like severe overkill for the situation. A flying leap that knocks Juarez to the ground as though he were holding a bomb and not an engagement ring. Not only that, the security guard is joined by others who seem equally amped. Juarez is handcuffed and pulled to his feet. He looks visibly rattled as he’s escorted off the field. Clearly, being straight-up football tackled to the ground wasn’t considered in his plan.
Sushi chef Juarez was taken to a nearby Los Angeles police station, where he and his future wife-to-be were reunited later. Regardless of the incident, Juarez’ girlfriend said yes, and both posted joyously to their Instagram.
“Tad bit extreme but he’s a LEO what can you expect,” Fiancé Ramona Saavedra posted. “And of course I said YES!” along with the video. Regardless of the result, it definitely makes for a great story to tell.
The couple have also launched a GoFundMe to help pay for the wedding.
