With so many different streaming platforms on the market, brands have to carve out their own niches, and it looks like Apple TV+ is ready to take on children’s programming. The streamer has just announced a whole slew of new children’s and family-friendly programming including a “Frog and Toad” series, based on the classic Arnold Lobel books.
The series will follow Frog and Toad, an unlikely pair of friends considering the former is happy-go-lucky, while the latter is far more uptight. The duo knows that the true secret to a strong friendship is enjoying the things you have in common while embracing the things that make you different. The animated series focuses on understanding and celebrating what makes us all different.
The voice cast for “Frog and Toad” boasts the talents of Nat Faxon, Kevin Michael Richardson, Ron Funches, Fortune Feimster, Cole Escola, Aparna Nancherla, Yvette Nicole Brown, Margaret Cho, and more. Rob Hoegee will serve as showrunner, with animation done by Titmouse. Hoegee will also executive produce alongside Adrianne Lobel, Adam Lobel, with Titmouse’s Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, and Ben Kalina.
Apple TV+ will also have two more brand-new series. The first is “Eva the Owlet,” which is based on Rebecca Elliott’s bestselling “Owl Diaries” series. The show will revolve around Eva, a creative and cheeky owlet who lives next door to her best friend Lucy in the woodland world of Treetopington. Armed with big ideas and an even bigger personality, Eva goes on high-flying adventures. All while expressing herself in her journal.
The second show is “Jane,” which will blend live-action and CGI. This will be a 10-episode mission-driven family series inspired by Dr. Jane Goodall. It stars Ava Louise Murchison as Jane Garcia, a 9-year-old budding environmentalist on a quest to save endangered animals.
But this new lineup will have some classic family favorites mixed in. Apple TV+ will also be adding some older “Peanuts” specials to their offerings, including “A Charlie Brown Valentine,” for the upcoming holiday. Along with “Peanuts Anthology III” which is a collection of vintage specials including 1983’s “It’s an Adventure, Charlie Brown,” 1996’s “It’s Spring Training, Charlie Brown,” 1980’s Emmy-winning “Life is a Circus, Charlie Brown,” among other classics!
“Harriet the Spy,” “Pretzel and the Puppies” and “Pinecone & Pony,” will all be returning to the streamer for their second seasons. And the Emmy-winning series “Stillwater” will be coming back for its third season.
