Theatrical powerhouse Sir Patrick Stewart says he is still open to portraying Jean-Luc Picard. This is despite his previously saying he was retiring the character. And also, Paramount+’s “Star Trek: Picard” heading into its 3rd and final season. The show is a follow-up to “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and various franchise films, where Stewart portrayed the captain of the USS Enterprise.
“There is still enormous potential for matters in what we can do and there are doors left open and we didn’t close all of them,” Stewart said during Paramount+’s TCA press tour. He did clarify this would only work if “Star Trek: Picard” could “maintain the work quality” it had in previous seasons. A tall order considering many cast and crew have probably already found other work after this season finished shooting.
Season 3 of “Star Trek: Picard” will bring back the cast of “Star Trek: Next Generation,” over 20 years after “Star Trek: Nemesis.” The cast includes LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, and Michelle Hurd.
Stewart’s comments were backed by executive producer and “Star Trek” steward, Alex Kurtzman. “If the show blows the doors off the place, and we’re certainly hoping it will as we’re very proud of season three, who knows,” Kurtzman said. “Anything is possible.”
The 3rd and final season of “Star Trek: Picard” hits Paramount+ February 16th, 2023. Check out the teaser trailer below:
