Snoop Dogg’s “Doggyland” is Our New Favorite Kid’s Show

There is only so many times a parent can watch “Cocomelon” or “Super Simple Songs.” Don’t get me wrong, they’re both great. All of the programming that’s actually programming (and not some kids yelling and fake crying) is pretty alright. But I was missing something. What, you ask? Why style, of course. We’re pretty big fans of Snoop Dogg here, so when we heard he was creating kid’s programming, we were pretty excited. Even more so now, because it’s catching on with kids and parents alike.

    “Doggyland,” YouTube

The shows offered on” Doggyland,” which is housed on YouTube (for now, I expect that somewhere down the line they will get bought up by a streaming service), are short songs and videos of characters singing classic kids song. So why is it something I wanted to highlight today? Because of the way Snoop and his team working with him on the channel have stylized the songs and characters you can’t help but sing along. Yes, Cocomelon’s “Peas” song is a banger. But have you heard Snoop’s affirmation song? There are thousands of parents singing along with it on TikTok and other platforms because hey, we can all use a little picking up sometimes.

Another great thing about these videos are that some songs are original compositions, like the sharing song and the bully song. The characters are stereotypically cartoon sounding which I really like. I feel like with some characters now they don’t try to put the cartoony-ness into them. It’s a small nuance, like pitching up the voices in a funny sounding way or lowering it to make it sound more doofy.

Snoop is not only involved with his community he’s also actively trying to enact change and make a better world. His food company Broadus Foods gives back by donating portions the the proceeds they make to the Door of Hope foundation. The Door of Hope helps the homeless and keeps them clothed and fed. They strive to keep families together and will even give them a warm bed to sleep in.

I’ve always said that if Snoop ever got a deal with Dr. Seuss to read the books for an audio book version I’d be first to buy them. These songs are all wonderful and fun to listen to. Giving kids reminders that they deserve to feel happy, and that there is no one better to be than themselves. It’s a great way for Snoop and his collaborators to give back to the community whom he has spent decades trying to improve.
