“Reno 911!: It’s a Wonderful Heist” Holiday Special Gets Trailer

Police comedy show “Reno 911!” is back on Comedy Central with a new special “Reno 911!: It’s a Wonderful Heist.” This new feature-length special will be a riff on the 1946 classic holiday film “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

In the first trailer, we see Lieutenant Dangle (Thomas Lennon) at a low point. So low in fact he begs a Christmas angel atop a shopping mall for some kind of guidance. In typically “Reno 911!” fashion, he gets a semi-twisted version of his wish when angel/sex worker Terry (Nick Swardson) arrives to show him a world without him in it. But unlike the iconic Christmas film, it is a take-off of, Dangle sees how much better everyone would be without him.

Deputy Weigel (Kerri Kenney-Silver) now professionally plays the musical glasses. Jones (Cedric Yarbrough) runs a very successful fondue restaurant and Clementine (Wendi McLendon-Covey) is now just straight-up rich. Everyone seems to be better off professionally without Dangle, not to mention happier.

But not to be deterred Dangle still gets up and goes to work fighting crime. It just so happens that the mall’s owner informs him of a planned heist to steal his precious silver nugget. Naturally, the squad is on the case only to bungle it in hilarious ways. During this, they face off with several colorful characters including a fully-grown chimp in a festive Christmas sack terrorizing the mall Santa. Can the “Reno 911!” gang protect the silver nugget? Our guess is yes, but only after they screw it up a lot first.

    “Reno 911,” Comedy Central

“Reno 911!: It’s a Wonderful Heist” is also a cool way for the show to come full circle by coming back to where it all started, Comedy Central. The show originally ran on the network for 6 seasons from 2003 to 2009. It was revived in May 2020 on the streaming platform Quibi for one season. Though Quibi renewed the show for a second season, which would technically be its 8th, in September of that same year. But Quibi announced in October they would be shutting down, while the 8th season was still in production. The Roku Channel scooped it up and called it “Reno 911! Defunded,” and premiered in February of this year. And if that is confusing enough during all of this in December 2021 the special “Reno 911!: Hunt for QAnon” premiered on Paramount+ where the entire series is also available.

“Reno 911!: It’s a Wonderful Heist” comes to Comedy Central on December 3rd at 8pm (EST). Check out the full trailer below:
