Some news- apparently cameras are rolling on the “Dune” prequel series about the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. Aptly titled “Dune: The Sisterhood,” the show is set in a timeline several thousands of years before the saga of Paul Atreides.
Johan Renck, who is directing the first two episodes of the series, shared the filming news on Instagram.
This is pretty exciting news for fans of the highly influential science fiction story created by Frank Herbert. Theoretically, we’ll be seeing the Bene Gesserit plant the seeds of the Missionaria Protectiva across the known universe, and maybe even the Butlerian Jihad!
While we don’t know much about “Dune: The Sisterhood,” we do know it’ll star Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson, Indira Varma, Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Chloe Lea.
Alison Schapker is showrunning. Diane Ademu-John created the series, and will write along with “Dune” screenwriter Jon Spaihts.
There is no currently known likely release date for “The Sisterhood,” which is being developed for and by HBO Max. “Dune: Part Two” started filming in July of this year, and is expected to keep it’s updated release date of November 3rd, 2023.
