“Gears of War” Creator Still Wants Dave Bautista to Star in Movie

“Gears of War” video game creator Cliff Bleszinski has a lot of thoughts on the cast for the recently announced Netflix movie adaptation. The streaming giant announced a partnership with Canadian game developer The Coalition. Together, they will be adapting the popular franchise into a live-action movie and an adult animated series. A fitting announcement considering it was also the 16th anniversary of “Gears of War’s” first release.

In light of this information, Bleszinski excitedly took to Twitter to do some fantasy casting. To be clear, Bleszinski is NOT involved with either project, but has blessed them. (Though he would be willing to consult on them if Netflix asked.) He says he has “no hard feelings” either way. At the moment, these projects have no actors, directors, or writers attached, and his casting picks are for funsies.

Dave Bautista, “Blade Runner: 2049” Warner Bros. Pictures

First, the “Gears of War” creator wants actor and former WWE star Dave Bautista as Marcus. But he also admits consummate fanboy Karl Urban would also be a strong choice. He even pleaded for “a Latino actor for Dom, dammit,” clarifying Carlos Ferro was cast as Dom in the game “after I had played a recent Splinter Cell game at the time and the Latino bad guys sounded like Speedy Gonzalez and I was like WTF is this.” Bleszinski says he wants a Latino actor with a subtle accent for the role.

Oh and yes, Bautista as Marcus please – and a Latino actor for Dom, dammit.

While Bautista and Chris Pratt worked well together on the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, Bleszinski wants him far away from the “Gears of War” movie. While he didn’t specify why- “Oh and keep Chris Pratt away from the Gears franchise, please, FFS”- isn’t vague. As for the character of Baird, Ryan Reynolds seems to be his top pick. Even providing an image from the game to show the resemblance.

    I think @VancityReynolds would make a perfect Baird in the live action #GearsofWar movie. @netflix https://t.co/78qMdt9kto pic.twitter.com/IFKnskptku
