“Outlander” Prequel About Jamie’s Parents a Go at STARZ

STARZ series “Outlander,” based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, is moving forward with a prequel series. What will it be about you ask? Why, Jamie Fraser’s parents of course!

“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” will reportedly detail the story of how Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser came to find love. Fans of “Outlander” will no doubt recall the ‘kidnapping’ of Ellen stories Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) tell.

Matthew B. Roberts, “Outlander” showrunner, will serve as writer and executive producer. Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore of Tall Ships Productions are also EPs. Diana Gabaldon is on board as a consulting producer.

“Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world,” Starz’s President of Original Programming Kathryn Busby said. “We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began. Matthew, Maril and Ronald will continue to bring their excellent vision and creativity to this new iteration, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.”

No word on casting yet or when we might see the series. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news. Season 7 of “Outlander” is in production right now, and is expected to bow on STARZ sometime in early 2023.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
