Social media can be a downright awful thing. But, sometimes, it can deliver the perfect pop culture distraction for an otherwise stressful day. Like today’s example, in which Sir Ian McKellen offered his thoughts on a recent interview Elizabeth Olsen gave.

If you’re wondering what the hell McKellen has to do with Olsen, let’s talk Marvel Comics.

Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto, 20th Century Fox

McKellen played Magneto, notable villain in the 2000 live-action “X-Men” film from Fox. Michael Fassbender also played Magento, albeit a younger version, also for Fox. While Olsen brought character Wanda Maximoff aka The Scarlet Witch in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” for Marvel Studios. In the source material comics, Magento is the father of Wanda, and her twin brother Pietro aka Quicksilver. While the various legalities of ownership regarding the X-Men mutant franchise meshing with Marvel Studios‘ were a problem in the early days of the MCU, that is no longer a problem.

This is has of course raised questions about bringing those iconic X-Men characters into the Marvel Studios’ fold.

Olsen, star of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” recently answered a question relating to Wanda’s comic book daddy.

Geek Culture: “If you had the choice, who would be your daddy of choice? Would it be Sir Ian McKellen or Michael Fassbender?

Olsen: “Oh… [laughs] I’m gonna go with Sir Ian McKellen. I had the biggest crush on him. He’s in these videos called Playing Shakespeare where actors get together and they do a Shakespeare… It’s a video series. He’s like the sexiest man in the world so I would say Sir Ian McKellen.”

McKellen, always a grand sport, commented on Olsen’s declaration with his own thoughts.

“If I had a daughter, I’d hope she’d be like Elizabeth. A treat to be her Daddy!”

Okay great. Now bring on House of M. Please.

Catch “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in theaters now.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
