London will soon house one of the most interesting looking music venues ever created. They’re gearing up to build The Sphere, which will create one of the most amazing 4D experiences ever had. Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp (MSG) is also currently building another sphere at The Venetian in Paradise, Nevada. That one is slated to open in 2023.
The London Sphere was approved on March 22nd, despite complaints from the O2 operator AEG. The O2 is another music venue with its own 20,000 seat arrangement just four miles away from where the new MSG Sphere is to be built. And the MSG Sphere will have a 21,500-person capacity.
The MSG Sphere will be placed on a plot that is a little less than a mile around. The land is next to both the Olympic Park and the Westfield shopping center.
It’s one of those things that looks like it dropped out of Stephen King‘s “Under the Dome.” To be completely engulfed in a circular venue will probably be the experience of a lifetime. Circular venues have always been interesting and date very far back. Some think that Stonehenge was also created to create an amphitheater-like aural experience for things like meetings and concerts. This structure will be far more advanced than that, with electricity, speakers, and video screens all throughout.
