Importance of High Speed Internet in Gaming

With the world having nearly 3.24 billion gamers, there is no doubt people love to play games. Everything from sports games, to RPGs, to shooters, to puzzle games are all played on a variety of consoles and devices. While some people are happy to play offline, many people prefer to get online and play with friends or other gamers from all over the world.

But in order to do this, you need a high-speed internet connection. While you can find the right provider by checking out this list by HighSpeedOptions, why does the connection need to be so fast? Won’t a mediocre connection work just as well?

While it might work, there are several reasons why a higher speed and higher quality internet connection is generally recommended for online gaming, and this article is going to cover a few of them.

    It Reduces Lag

The first reason why high-speed internet is important for gaming is because it is able to reduce your lag. When you have a poor connection, your game will often pause, freeze up, or lag, which can ruin your experience. The frustration of lag is something every gamer knows, and it can make something that should be fun and relaxing, a real chore. Having better internet simply provides a smooth experience where lag isn’t experienced much at all, if ever.

This doesn’t have much to do with the download or upload speed of your internet, but the ping and latency instead. This has to do with how quickly an input or other type of data can be sent to the server and then received back to your device. The lower the ping, the quicker the game will register your input. Better ping gives you the upper hand over your opponent as you may see and be able to respond to things a tiny bit faster.

It Speeds Up Downloads and Updates

When you first buy a game today on your PC or console, there is almost always an initial install or download required. This could only be a couple of GB but could be well over 100 GB for newer games. High-speed internet allows you to deal with these installs and downloads incredibly quickly and without an issue.

If your internet is poor, it might take days and days to install a game, and hours to perform a small update. Also, with games getting bigger, it takes longer and longer to download games or updates, especially with poor internet. You never want to have to wait so long to play a new game you just bought, and high-speed internet can get you right into the action as quickly as possible.

    It is More Reliable

Few things can be more annoying when gaming online than your internet cutting out. It has happened to all of us at one time or another, and it can ruin the online gaming experience. While any internet can cut out, high-speed and high-quality internet connections will generally be more reliable.

They will crash and stop working far less, which will allow you to stay online without interruption. So not only will your experience be more smooth while playing, you will have to worry less about being disconnected altogether.

In conclusion, we hope that this article has been able to show you why high speed internet is so important for online gaming.
