Lil Nas X’s Shoes: Make Your Own 666 Satan For Less than $200

Lil Nas X‘s newest video “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” prompted a specialty pair of kicks. The award-winning musician is calling them Satan Shoes, and many people are pretty upset about it. The shoes are said to have a drop of human blood in each pair, and they’ll cost you around $1,018. The quantity is limited to just 666 pairs, and after that you’re out of luck.

Nike was called out for collaborating with the artist because of the sinister moniker, but according to the brand, they had no such involvement.

The sneakers sold out in under a minute. If you weren’t able to snag a pair of these limited edition sneakers, there are ways to make your own, and without the $1,000 price tag.

Here’s how you can make your own.

Step 1 – The Right Shoes

First of all if you don’t like the design of the Nike Air Max ’97 you can buy any other pair of shoes. I recommend getting a good old pair of Converse. I especially think the all black high tops ($40) would look good in this style. Though if you want Nike, they have the Air Max 270 that should work, and will cost about $70.

    Step 2 – Decoration

This part was a little harder to track down only because when you search pentagram on Amazon the only things that come up are the upright star. What we’re searching for here is the upside down pentacle that symbolizes the devil’s horns facing upright. For this, I found a few cool options on Etsy that are much prettier than what comes with Lil Nas X’s version of the shoe.

Options range from around $3 to $30 per charm. Some come in lots.

Step 3 – Painting the Shoe

This part is probably the most fun because you can just draw whatever you wish and add highlights to the shoe. I recommend going with a red posca pen. You can write in anything you like, your favorite metal quote…like Slayer’s “I keep the bible in a pool of blood, So that none of its lies can affect me” taken from the song “New Faith.”

Note that any red paint pen will do.

    Finally- Put it all together!

You’re going to have to forgive the slap-dash photoshop job… But you get the idea. I used the quote but you could do something similar to what he has on the actual shoe which is a number and a bible verse.

    Estimated Total: $150 – $200
