So while the pandemic was in full force there were certain things that became a luxury. Think things like toilet paper, Kleenex, Clorox wipes. But never once did I imagine there was a Grape Nuts epidemic like the one described.
Apparently there was such a shortage of the fan favorite cereal that people were paying exorbitant amounts of money for it. They say that it went up to $110 a box in some instances. And that it was being sold on the “secondary” market.
“It became abundantly clear during the shortage that Grape-Nuts fans are ‘Nuts for Grape-Nuts. So much so that some of our loyal super fans were willing to pay extreme prices just to ensure they wouldn’t be without their favorite crunchy cereal.”

Grape Nuts’ parent company has now said anyone who paid such crazy prices are now able to get compensation up to $115. They’ve started shipping out full orders to stores and the cereal will go back down to its original retail price. But for those who kept their receipts that means they can stock up with the money they’re given back. You know, just incase the value of Grape Nuts skyrockets again.
It is laughable that the prices got so high for a box of cereal. But fans are fans no matter what they love.
