The glamour and excitement of casinos have been an integral part of many movies and TV shows. With the high-risks taken by James Bond in Casino Royale or by Hunter Thompson in his portrayal of Las Vegas, there are movies to suit every taste.  There are also television series based on casinos that have been popular, though less well known than their big-screen cousins.  Here we look at some great casino movies and television series you should watch:

    Movies

“Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas“

Many have always believed that Las Vegas portrays the American dream, but this movie sees Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro as two druggies who drive across the Mojave Desert to Las Vegas cover a motorcycle race but take so many drugs over such a short period of time that their time in Vegas is both alarming and liable to legal repercussions.

The movie provides some guide to what can happen if you mix drugs with Vegas.  If the movie fills you with fear of Sin City, you may prefer to play at a renowned online casino like Uptown Aces that offers a wide array of games and bonuses on a secure and certified gaming platform. Here you can access an extensive VIP scheme and try out your gaming strategies.

    “Casino Royale“

“Casino Royale” is one of the movies that will make you learn more about how participants take risks in playing some of the best casino movies in the James Bond series. Secret agent 007 plays to stop a criminal’s banker from winning a high-stakes game of No-Limit Texas Hold’em. The movie is worth watching because the rules of the games are accurate, with poker fans able to get some ideas from the poker tournament, particularly when it comes to bluffing.

    “Hard Eight“

If you are looking forward to watching a casino movie, then Hard Eight shows a professional gambler who guides a novice on how to go about casino gaming. Starring Philip Baker, John C.Reilly, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Samuel L Jackson, each character is compelling, giving a flavor of what it is to inhabit the city fringes of Vegas with vast experiences and a wish not to make the same mistake twice. In many ways, it is not so much what is said, but how it is said which makes this movie so gripping

    “The Gambler“

The movie portrays a literature professor who is also a gambling addict. He ends up owing almost a quarter of a million dollars to some criminals who are not happy at their loss and target those close to him. The teacher strives to clear the debt and come out alive from the threats of the gangsters.  The movie has some amazing scenes of high-stakes gambling, whilst also dealing with the existential crisis of being an addict. The cinematography is also beautiful.

    “Ocean’s Eleven“

“Ocean’s Eleven” is a comedy heist movie in which three casinos are robbed at once. A remake of the 1960 Rat Pack film, “Ocean’s 11” the movie stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Elliot Gould among others and was hugely successful not only for the number of Hollywood A-listers but for pure entertainment from great performances from all the cast and stunning cinematography.

    TV Shows

    “Celebrity Poker “

Between 2003 and 2006, “Celebrity Poker” saw stars nominated by their own fans take part in a high stakes poker game. Most of the games were extreme, reaching around USD1 million in just a few minutes. This show was a big hit, thrilling viewers but also an opportunity for some top tips for those new to casino games.  The show was such a success it ran for five seasons.

    “Caesars Challenge “

At a time before reality shows were a genre, the well-known Caesar’s Palace casino in Las Vegas hosted a quiz show in which the participant’s answer would light upon a slot machine,  which could land them a top prize of USD500. This was a big prize in 1993 and 1994 when the series ran, though now most online casinos offer similar amounts as part of a welcome bonus package.

    “Poker After Dark” (2007-2011, 2017-2019)

Between 2007 and 2011, amateur poker players were able to watch world-class poker players start with USD500 and building higher stakes over five days of playing they would be aiming to win USD120,000. What makes the show so successful, and it was repeated between 2017 and 2019, is that the narrator explained different players’ strategies.
