Authorities Advise DO NOT EAT Cannibal Sandwiches For the Holidays

When I first saw this I wondered “what kind of Donner Party BS is this?” Thankfully this cannibal sandwich is NOT actually made of human meat- but instead just raw beef. That’s right, one of the favorite holiday foods in Wisconsin is just raw ground beef, onions, with salt and pepper smashed between two pieces of bread.

The Wisconsin Department of Health had to issue their yearly reminder that raw meat sandwiches are not good for you. They took to Twitter and Facebook to get the word out.

For many #Wisconsin families, raw meat sandwiches are a #holiday tradition, but eating raw meat is NEVER recommended because of the bacteria it can contain. Ground beef should always be cooked to 160 degrees! Get more holiday food safety tips: https://t.co/h3fi4TfPye #foodsafety pic.twitter.com/jDqmkt6uOU

“Many Wisconsin families consider them to be a holiday tradition, but eating them poses a threat for Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, Campylobacter and Listeria bacteria that can make you sick. (And, no, it doesn’t matter where you buy your beef!) Remember, ground beef should ALWAYS be cooked to an internal temperature of 160° F.”

Meat needs to be cooked to an internal temperature of 160° F for safety reasons. If food is consumed that isn’t cooked like raw meat it can make you very very sick. And if your animals get to it like your cats it can make them very sick as well. Please play it safe and cook your food this year. Wisconsin I’m lookin’ at you.
